The solicitors get to work, contracts are exchanged, money is exchanged and the transaction is completed. In the no-so-ideal world, this process can get horribly held up by various unforeseen circumstances. These can include a bad solicitor somewhere in the chain, a mortgage offer being withdrawn, probate on a will, missing documents etc. etc. There are so many things that can delay the process.
